The Adair County fiscal court held a brief meeting Tuesday to take care of financial matters and discuss the meeting schedule.
Last month, the court approved a plan to meet twice a month, with one meeting specifically designated for the approval of paying bills. The county has paid late fees because the court must approve the payment of bills before checks are issued. Because the court has been meeting monthly, some bills would be overdue before they could be paid.
The court had voted to hold a special called meeting each month at a certain day and time for just paying bills, but they have since learned that was not a proper method.
After some discussion, the court voted to move their regular meeting scheduled the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and to call a special called meeting earlier in the month if needed for paying bills.
Also during the meeting, Deputy Judge Executive Bridget Compton said Sheila Blair, the occupational tax administrator, asked the court to hire someone part time on a temporary basis. Blair, who is facing medical issues, will be able to help train someone to fill in. She will decide later if she will return to the position. The court approved the request.
The court approved a request for cheerleaders to use the Jim Blair Center on Jan. 17 and waive the usual fee.
The meeting lasted around 15 minutes, and all magistrates as well as County Judge Executive Larry Russell Bryant were in attendance. Several candidates for magistrate were also in attendance.
