Adair County Middle School’s sixth grade academic team traveled to Science Hill Elementary School Saturday, Dec. 3, for the Governor’s Cup 6th Grade Showcase. Competing against some of the brightest young students in the state, the squad managed an impressive third place finish and took home several individual awards as well.
“We are so proud of our team,” says Mary Ann McQuaide, who coaches the team, along with Vicki Leibeck. “All the members have studied hard and shown great dedication.”

In addition to the third place overall team finish, the quick recall team placed fourth. Top 10 individual performers included: Briley Burns, second place in composition; Elizabeth Smith, third place in social studies; Alannah Bowman, third place in language arts and fourth place in science; Gracelynn Akin, fifth place in composition; Angelina Firkins, fifth place in arts and humanities; and Mirah Murphy, sixth place in math.
