Adair County High School physics teacher and volleyball coach Michael Godsey is in critical condition from injuries sustained Tuesday when the bicycle he was riding was hit by an automobile.

The accident occurred at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Ky. 551 and Holmes Bend Road.

According to Kentucky State Police, Rosetta Stotts, 54, of Columbia, was operating a 2005 Hyundai traveling north on Ky. 551 when she attempted to turn left onto Holmes Bend Road.  Stotts turned into the path of Godsey’s bicycle, KSP reports.

Godsey, 45, was taken from the scene to the Westlake Regional Hospital helipad and flown to University of Louisville Hospital, where he was undergoing surgery Tuesday evening. Godsey was wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.

Stotts and a passenger, 10-year-old Kelsea Stotts, were both wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

Trooper Levi Scott is investigating the collision. CVE Officer Derek Cundiff, Adair County EMS, Adair County Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Department and Adair Search and Rescue were also on the scene.
