On Dec. 27 at 3:11 p.m., the Adair County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Adair County 911 to respond to the 3000 block of Cane Valley to a reported vehicle versus semi collision.
Preliminary investigation shows that Jason Paul Jones Jr. was traveling north on Cane Valley Road.
Evidence at the scene indicates that Jones topped a rise in the road that had a slight curve on wrong side of the roadway.
A combination vehicle driven by Edward Hughes had pulled from a private drive and was going south on Cane Valley Road.
Jones slid approximately 294 feet on the roadway before striking Hughes’ combination vehicle.
Jones was entrapped in his vehicle and was extricated from the vehicle by Columbia-Adair County Volunteer Fire Department.
He was treated on scene and then transported to Somerset airport due to weather, where he was airlifted to University of Kentucky Hospital.
Jones’ passenger, Cameron Carson, was transported to TJ Health Columbia and was later transferred by EMS to University of Kentucky, as well.
Hughes was uninjured in the collision.
The collision was investigated by Sheriff’s Deputy Chandler Staten and was assisted by Sheriff Josh Brockman.
Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision and all parties involved were wearing seatbelts.
Agencies responding were Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Adair County EMS, Columbia-Adair County Volunteer Fire Department and Constable Jason Rector.
