Columbia Police arrested an Adair County man on several felonies including DUI following a high speed pursuit.
The incident occurred Saturday evening when CPD Ofc. Drew Conn was on patrol and using moving radar. Ofc. Conn observed a vehicle traveling west on the parkway near the Walmart exit traveling at a speed of 132 mph.
Ofc. Conn activated his emergency equipment and drove through the median to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle continued to accelerate. The vehicle got off the parkway at exit 46 (Walmart exit) but was traveling to0 fast when approaching the ramp and the operator was unable to make the turn onto Burkesville Road.
The black 2004 Pontiac GTO left the roadway going airborne and struck the guardrail on the opposite side of roadway. The operator exited the vehicle and ran on foot before he was caught by Ofc. Conn. 26-year-old Kenneth Andrus of Adair County was arrested and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. Andrus was charged with:
Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, 2nd offense, aggravated circumstances; Operating on a Suspended Drivers License; Speeding; Reckless Driving; Three counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st degree; Fleeing and Evading Police, 1st degree motor vehicle; and Fleeing and Evading Police, 1st degree on foot .
Ofc. Conn was assisted by CPD Ofc. John Dial. Columbia Police are continuing the investigation and no injuries were reported in the incident.
