SOMERSET, Ky. (Jan. 16, 2017) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 highway crews continue battling the latest round of winter weather that moved into our area early Tuesday.
As of 9 a.m., snow continues to fall, with air temperatures averaging 18 degrees and pavement temperatures about 22 degrees and dropping across the district. The frigid temps will make treating the roads very difficult.
At this hour crews are focusing their efforts on the main priority A routes and will work their way to the B and C routes as time progresses. We ask for folks to be patient especially those who live on more rural routes. The snow and ice route designations by county can be found at snowky.ky.gov. Motorists should use caution, take it slow, leave early to arrive safely, and keep a safe distance between vehicles and plow trucks.
KYTC District 8 is responsible for maintaining approximately 5,100 lane miles in Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell and Wayne counties.
