Head on Collision on East 80 Leaves Two Injured

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office responded to a head on collision on KY 80 East that left two injured. On Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023 at 3:55 p.m., Adair 911 received multiple calls on an injury collision 10 miles east of Columbia.

Preliminary investigation shows Unit 1 was traveling east toward Russell County. The vehicle was operated by Logan Russell, 26, of Russell Springs.

Russell lost control of his 2014 Ford passenger car and entered into the west bound lane of traffic striking Unit 2, a 2012 Mazda, head on.

Unit 2 was operated by Mark Hutchison, 25, of Columbia.

Hutchison was treated on scene by Adair EMS after he was extricated from the vehicle by Columbia/Adair Fire Department and transported to Russell County Hospital.

Russell was treated on scene by Adair EMS and transported to T.J. Health of Columbia where he was airlifted to University of Louisville.

The accident is being investigated by Chief Brandon Hitch who was assisted by Sheriff Josh Brockman.

Columbia/Adair County Fire Department, Adair EMS and Adair County Sheriff’s Office were the responding agencies.
