On Nov. 2, the Columbia Police Department responded with Adair County EMS to First Choice Immediate Care just outside of the city limits for a possible juvenile drug overdose.

A 16-year-old male juvenile was transported by Adair County EMS to T.J. Health Columbia for treatment.

It was later found he had been allowed access to cannabis concentrate by using a vape pen.

Cannabis or marijuana concentrate has a concentrated THC level that may range from 40 to 80 percent while leaf base cannabis typically contains a THC level of no higher than 20 percent.

After a brief investigation, a female party who had allowed the juvenile to use the vape pen was identified and contact was made.

The female, Jessica Bennett, 21, of Columbia admitted she had allowed use from her personal property for the juvenile to use which resulted in his overdose.

Bennett was taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana as well as unlawful transaction with a minor 2nd degree, a class D felony.

Officer Drew Conn was the investigating officer and was assisted by officer Adam Cravens.
