Blue Raiders will resume play on Monday, Dec. 2 in Montgomery, Ala.

COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Lindsey Wilson men’s soccer team defeated Park (Mo.) University 3-1 on Saturday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium in the 2013 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round.

The Blue Raiders will face the winner of the No. 15 Davenport (Mich.) University and Indiana Wesleyan University game being played at 7 p.m. CT Saturday night.

Park ends their 2013 season with an 11-6-1 record.

Lindsey Wilson (15-3-2) fell behind after Park’s George Kennedy found the back of the net in the 30th minute off an assist from Kiel Williams. Kennedy made a Lindsey Wilson defender miss before switching from his right to left foot and beat a diving Yuta Nomura to the bottom right portion of the goal to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Nomura allowed one goal while recording four saves.

The Blue Raiders would get a goal of their own in the 41st minute. A cross from Keletso Mosime was deflected off a Park defender and found Yazeed Davids waiting just outside the penalty area. Davids fired the ball to the bottom left corner of the goal to beat Park goalkeeper Ryan Miller and tie the game 1-1. Miller allowed all three goals and recorded five saves in the loss.

Lindsey Wilson wasted little time out of the break to take their first lead of the game. Yusuf Ackers chipped a cross into the box as a leaping Tom Moody headed the ball into the back of the net to give Lindsey Wilson the 2-1 lead in the 48th minute.

The Blue Raiders would add their final goal of the night in the 64th minute. Mosime delivered a wind-blown ball off a high corner kick that the Park keeper misplayed and sailed over his head into the net for the 3-1 lead.

Lindsey Wilson outshot the Pirates 19-8 on the night in a physical game that saw five yellow cards and 36 total fouls.

The Blue Raiders resume play on Monday, Dec. 2 at the 2013 Men’s Soccer NAIA National Tournament Final Site at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery, Ala.
