LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Lindsey Wilson College freshman Courtney Doyle’s 20 kills helped the second-seeded Blue Raiders to a 3-1 win today over St. Catharine (Ky.) College in the Mid-South Conference Tournament quarterfinals at MidAmerican Sports Center.
Lindsey Wilson advances to the tournament’s semifinals where they will face the winner of today’s second quarterfinal match featuring third-seeded University of Rio Grande and sixth-seeded University of the Cumberlands. The semifinals are scheduled for 9 a.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 10.
While Doyle — the MSC Freshman of the Year — was producing 20 kills and a .378 attacking percentage, her teammate Sarah Anderson added 13 kills in 27 swings without an error. Anderson’s .481 hitting percentage was a match high.
Kailey Moorhead made it three Blue Raiders with double-digit kills as she ended the match with 12 kills. Sierra Wilkerson ended with eight kills while hitting .462.
As a team, Lindsey Wilson (26-12) finished with a .247 hitting percentage compared to the Patriots’ .208 in the 25-19, 17-25, 25-19, 25-18 win. St. Catharine’s season ends at 12-19.
Lindsey Wilson’s Andrea Taylor finished with a double-double in the match recording 48 assists and 14 digs. She was one of four Blue Raiders with double figure digs.
Kristi Hager dug 23 balls while Angela Mlachnik and Kellie Ranney added 13 and 11 digs respectively.
After building as much as a seven-point lead in the opening set, the Blue Raiders cruised to a 25-19 first-set win to take a 1-0 lead. St. Catharine responded in the second set with two different five-point runs en route to a 25-17 win to even the match at 1-1.
The Blue Raiders never trailed in the third set. After leading early 5-1 to open the set, the Patriots battled back to tie the set at 10-10. Lindsey Wilson scored eight of the next 10 points and never looked back in a 25-18 set win.
Up two sets to one, Lindsey Wilson once again got off to a quick start in set four by scoring seven of the first nine points. St. Catharine tied the set at 11-11 before the Blue Raiders seized control in the set. Lindsey Wilson sprinted out to a 19-14 lead and scored six of the last seven points for the 25-18 set win and the 3-1 match win.
The Blue Raiders return to action at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday in the MSC Tournament semifinals at MidAmerican Sports Center in Louisville.
