The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 Office advises motorists that beginning Monday, June 19, crews will begin performing paving operations on KY 80 in Russell County.
Work will be performed starting at the Adair/Russell County line (mile point 0) and end at the intersection of U.S. 127 in Russell Springs (mile point 3.9). During these operations the roadway will be reduced to one lane with traffic controlled by flaggers.
The pavement operations will consist of a process known as cape-sealing. Cape-sealing is a preventive maintenance process aimed at extending the life of aging pavement. Cape-sealing is a three-step process. It includes a layer of chip and seal, followed by sweeping to remove excess gravel, then a coating of asphalt slurry is applied to smooth and seal the driving surface. Motorists are advised that during the process drivers will encounter a chip and seal surface for a short period of time. Once the final stages of the application are applied drivers can expect a smooth driving surface.
Work is expected to be completed in approximately five weeks. The starting date and duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to allow extra time in reaching their destination.
