Road, Bridge will Honor Fallen Firefighters

A brief ceremony was held Saturday morning to unveil signs memorializing two Columbia firefighters who died while serving, The families of Tony Grider and Charles Sparks joined Sen. Max Wise and Rep. Bam Carney during the ceremony held at the Adair County Fire Department.

Tony Grider, a Columbia resident and member of the local volunteer fire department, was injured while on duty for the Campbellsville fire department in September 2014 and died a month later.

Charles Sparks was on the scene of a house fire in Adair County on June 30, 2011 when he collapsed and died from an apparent heart attack. Sparks served as a firefighter for 32 years.
