ACHS Academic Team members once again advance to Governor's Cup State

At the 2015 Governor's Cup Regional, Adair County High School had another successful series of finishes among the best students from 19 different schools stretching from Bowling Green to Russell County. The ACHS Academic Team earned five slots in Governor's Cup State Finals, which will be held in mid-March at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville.  Senior Brittany Curry led the charge for the team by qualifying in both Mathematics and Social Studies. Curry is also a returning State Finalist in Math from last year's qualification as a Junior.   Two previous qualifiers also joined Curry for the right to compete at State. Juniors Rebecca Montgomery and Treyton Grant both advanced to State Finals with a 2nd Place finish in Language Arts for Montgomery and a 3rd Place qualification for Grant. In addition, Montgomery's score, along with the Region's 1st Place competitor, was among the Top 10 students across the state in the category.  Senior Jessi Taylor recorded another team victory by finishing 4th in Composition and advancing to State. Taylor is another former State Finalist who also led the charge for the District Champion Future Problem Solving team this year.  In what was one of the most competitive Regional Championships across the entire state, ACHS's Quick Recall team earned 3rd in the event. The team recorded 30-plus point victories throughout the day against the Region's eventual 4th, 5th, and 6th place teams, but eventually fell to a very good Bowling Green squad in an exciting back-and-forth match that ended in a 2-point defeat.  Coach Brett Reliford commented on the team's success, "I was so proud of the poise and confidence our players showed throughout the day. The level of growth in each player since the first time they stepped into a practice is nothing short of mind-blowing. Every single one of them walked away knowing that not only had they competed in the toughest 4th Region Championship in Governor's Cup's history, they also knew they belonged and were not intimidated by the level of competition this year. This is another stellar group that is going to be remembered for continuing the winning legacy Adair has had at Region and at the State level over the last decade-plus."
