Saturday’s Fall Heritage Festival at Homeplace on Green River will have more activities than any previous festival at the farm. The festival is geared for family fun, learning and sharing.
New this year are a pioneer camp of long hunters, story tellers, a nature scavenger hunt in the woods on the newly opened trail system, a self-defense demonstration, an SPCA sponsored dog show, make and take children’s’ crafts, a farmer’s market, a family game area, rescued horses F. Fred Standardbred and Ted, and an art exhibition of scarecrow art done by elementary school children from Adair, Green and Taylor counties. There will also be a sheltered area with lots of activities for children ages 1-5 (must be accompanied by an adult.)
These are in addition to the many events and activities from past years including six different live music shows throughout the day, hay wagon and mule wagon rides, arts and crafts exhibits and vendors, horse rides for the young children, face and fingernail painting, barrel train rides, hay bales to climb on, food vendors, photography workshops and the alpacas, Lucy and her friends. There will be food vendors serving barbeque and tenderloin sandwiches, country ham biscuits and hot dogs. The Mayfield ice cream wagon will also be there.
The festival will begin at 9 a.m. EDT and end at 4 p.m. There is a $5/car parking fee which includes three $1 tickets for activities. Many of the activities are free, but some require a $1 ticket and some a $.25 ticket. All of the proceeds go toward operation of Homeplace on Green River, a non-profit all volunteer effort to preserve and restore the 200 year old farm.
