On Monday, July 10, 2023, at approximately 2:52 A.M, Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, received a 911 call in reference to a two motorcycle accident, in the Amburgey community of Knott County.
Troopers, along with medical personnel responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates two motorcycles were traveling southbound on KY-15, when one of the motorcycles came to a stop at a red light. The second motorcycle operated by Billy J. Franks, 45, of Whitesburg, failed to stop and collided with the motorcycle in front. The Knott County Coroners Office responded to the scene and pronounced Franks deceased.
Helmets were in use at the time of the collision. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending at this time. This incident remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by Trooper Adam Baker.
