Nortonville, Ky. (04/08/2024) – On April 6, 2024, at approximately 5:23 a.m. (CT), the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department requested KSP Post 2 to investigate a fatal collision on the Pennyrile Parkway near Nortonville.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Desmond Washington, 19, of Fort Campbell KY, was operating a Toyota Corolla northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway. Elmer Francisco Calo Morente, 16, of Nashville TN, was operating a Toyota Tacomma Southbound. For unknown reasons, the Toyota Corolla crossed the median, entered the southbound lanes, and struck the Toyota Tacoma head-on.
A passenger in the Toyota Tacoma, Matias C Juarez, 36, of Nashville TN, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner.
The investigation is ongoing by Accident Reconstructionist Trooper Patrick Penrod. KSP was assisted on scene by the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department, Kentucky State Highway Department, and the Hopkins County coroner.
