Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision in Jackson County

Tyner, Ky. (September 27, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, was contacted just before 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in reference to a two-vehicle collision on Begley Road in Jackson County.

The initial investigation indicates a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle, operated by Jeremy Smith, 46, of Tyner, KY, was traveling west on Begley Road, crossed the center line, and collided head-on into the path of a 2002 Ford Truck, traveling east, operated by Mikkel Halverson, 39, of Mckee, KY.

As a result of the collision, Jeremy Smith, 46, of Tyner, was transported to St. Joseph Health London, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Laurel County Deputy Coroner Barkley Bowling. 

The ongoing collision investigation is being conducted by Trooper Tyler Holt. He was assisted on the scene by Kentucky State Police personnel, Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Jackson County EMS, and Jackson County Fire Department.
