Adair County High School theatre students were hard at work Monday afternoon at Lindsey Wilson College’s Hodge Center, rehearsing and putting the finishing touches on its upcoming production “Legally Blonde: The Musical” which debuts Thursday.

“We started on it back in November, working on the music, then moved on to choreography and staging over the past nine weeks,” explains ACHS arts and humanities teacher Brett Reliford, the show’s director. “The idea is that we have surrounding communities with successful arts councils, but not really in Columbia. Lindsey Wilson has a tremendous theatre program, so hopefully this kind of opens that door for high school students.”

The musical will feature 17 songs and include 21 Adair County students. ACHS music teacher Ginna Marsh is serving as music director. Marsh and Reliford hope that the musical will provide students with theatre experience that cannot be duplicated in a classroom.

The first of the three shows will take place this Thursday, April 20, at LWC’s Hodge Center, starting at 10 a.m. Another showing will take place Thursday night at 7 p.m. The last opportunity to catch the production will be Friday night at 7 p.m. Reliford encourages the community to come out and support local students.

“I’m very proud of these kids and their enthusiasm and cooperation,” Reliford says. “They have come to class and rehearsal every day with good attitudes and tried to make this as successful as they can.”

Anyone interested in purchasing tickets for the shows may do so online by visiting www.adair.k12.ky.us and clicking the quick link provided in the left-hand column. If seats are still available, a limited number of tickets will be sold at the door.
