LWC track member earns Track Althete of the Week

Renee Hurd is the Mid-South Conference Track Athlete of the Week while teammate Kerry Ann Walker is the MSC Field Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced on Tuesday.

The weekly award is the second for Hurd, while Walker earns her first of the season. Hurd was named the MSC Athlete of the Year after accumulating 45 total points at the MSC Championships, the most by any athlete.

The Pensacola, Florida, senior won two events, finished second in two events and posted a fourth during her track events over the weekend. Hurd won the 400-meter hurdles and the heptathlon event and added runner-up finishes in both the 400-meter run and 4x400 meter relay.

In the heptathlon competition, Hurd won the 200 and 800 meters. She also won the high jump field event. In all, she collected three First Team and two Second Team All-MSC honors over the weekend while helping Lindsey Wilson to a second-place team finish.

Walker won a pair of field events and added a sixth-place finish at the MSC Championships.

The St. Ann, Jamaica, junior dominated the field in the discus, winning by over four meters and setting a new conference championship record with her throw of 41.97 meters

Walker won the triple jump before adding a sixth place in the javelin throw. Walker would also finish second as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team.

In all, Walker collected a pair of First Team All-MSC honors and one Second Team All-MSC.
