LWC women's golf in fourth place after opening day

The Lindsey Wilson women’s golf team sits in fourth after the opening round of play at the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament on Monday.

The Blue Raiders posted a first-round 334, leading Cumberland (Tenn.) and Pikeville (Ky.) by seven strokes and trailing Campbellsville (Ky.) by eight strokes. Competing on the par-72 StoneCrest Golf Course, Cristina Jimenez had Lindsey Wilson’s top individual performance with a 4-over par 76 to sit in third place. She led the entire field with the most birdies during the opening round with four and recorded the best score of the day on par-4s at 2-over par.

Megan Kriz placed 14th with a 9-over par 81; Kayla Cordeiro tied for 27th with an 88 and Amy Brown and Courtney Swindle both tied for 29th with identical scores of 89.

Playing as an individual, Shayna Cockrill shot an 8-over par 80 to tie for 10th and made par on 10-of-18 holes.

Leading the pack through round one is Indiana Tech with a team score of 313. Cumberlands (Ky.) trails by three strokes at 316.

Indiana Tech’s Wiebke Schlender and Cumberlands’ Bri-anne Tokariwski tied one another for the top individual score with identical 2-over par 74s.

The final round of play will take place tomorrow.
