Willie Van Coop, 86, of Louisville, formerly of Columbia, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016 at his home.

He was born on Aug. 8, 1930 in Burkesville and he was the son of the late Hershel and Eunice Capps Coop and Sarah Riddle Coop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by tow brothers, Fred Coop and Ray Coop.

He is survived by his wife, Ophelia Powell Coop of Louisville; two sons, Gregory Van (Eva) Coop of Chicago, Ill. and Troy Sean Coop of Burlington; three sisters, Helen Melton of Charlestown, Ind., Marie Cantrell of Louisville and Betty Jo Coop of Columbia; three grandchildren, Carissa Coop, Mikaela Coop and Mackenzie Coop.

He was a member of Farmdale Baptist Church in Louisville. He retired from General Electric in Louisville and Manheim in Clarksville, Ind. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 – 1958.

Funeral service is today at 11 a.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with interment in Haven Hill Cemetery.
