Three arrested for theft and multiple felony charges after execution of search warrant in Sano community.
On Jan. 10, 2023 at 05:47 a.m. CDT, Adair County 911 received a call from Kentucky State Police requesting for the sheriffs office to respond to the Sano community to a reported breaking and entering complaint.
Sheriff Brockman responded to the call. Upon investigation of the residential break in, a suspect and possible location of stolen items was developed. Sheriff Brockman applied for and was granted a search warrant by Adair Circuit Judge Judy Vance Murphy for a residence located at 145 West Sulphur Creek Rd., 12 miles east of Columbia.
At 10:27 a.m. CDT, the search warrant was executed on the residence by Sheriff Brockman along with K-9 Deputy Chandler Staten and KSP troopers. Several thousand dollars worth of stolen items was recovered from the residence. Items were not only located from the break-in that morning, but items from a different break-in, several days prior.
The following were arrested:
Chris Smothers, 39, of Columbia
– Receiving stolen property over 1,000 dollars
– outstanding felony warrant for Adair Circuit Court
– Probation Violation warrant, no bond, Russell Circuit Court
-outstanding warrant, Failure to Appear in Russell District court
Anthony Popplewell, 32, of Columbia
– Receiving Stolen Property over 1,000 dollars
– outstanding warrant Russell District Court
Randy Brown, 36, of Jamestown
– Outstanding Parole warrant
-outstanding warrant of arrest Russell District Court
– outstanding warrant Russell Circuit Court
All 3 were arrested and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail by Sheriff Josh Brockman. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
