On Friday Columbia Police Department responded to a report of an injury accident at the intersection of KY55 and the Veterans Memorial Bypass. The accident resulted in the loss of life of two Taylor County residents.
The accident occurred when a 2005 Dodge Neon being operated by Martha Boggs, 73, and her passenger John Boggs, 64, both of Taylor County, were traveling east on the bypass and failed to stop at the intersection. The vehicle was struck in the passenger side by a 2005 Chevrolet 2500 truck operated by Ed Grider, 66, of Adair County and his passengers Florbel Monjuras, 31, and Hugo Vasquez Monjuras, 33, also of Adair County.
As a result of the collision passenger John Boggs was entrapped in the Dodge Neon and Columbia Adair County Fire Department had to extricate him by mechanical means.
All 5 passengers were treated on scene and transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by Adair County EMS. Grider and his passengers are currently in stable condition. Martha Boggs and her husband John Boggs were pronounced deceased at the Westlake Regional ER by Adair County Coroner Todd Akin’s office. Next of kin notifications were verified through Coroner Akin prior to release.
The collision is being investigated by CPD Ofc. Drew Conn with assistance from Sgt. Tracy McCarol.
