Wreck on bypass sends occupants to hospital

The Columbia Police Department responded to a two vehicle injury accident on the bypass at the Greensburg Street intersection Saturday morning.

The accident occurred when a grey Chevy Captiva, operated by Ralph Foster, of Columbia, crossed the intersection from HWY 61 and into the direction of travel of a red Ford Explorer being driven by Melinda Cooney, of Louisville, who was on the bypass, northbound according to witnesses.

After impact both vehicles came to rest off the roadway onto separate shoulders. Cooney was transported by Adair EMS to TJ Samson Columbia for possible injuries along with two passengers. Foster and one female passenger was later taken privately to TJ Samson to be checked out.

Officer Adam Cravens investigated the accident. He was assisted on scene by Officer Drew Conn and Deputy Brandon Hitch. The Columbia Adair Fire Department also responded to the scene.
