Betty Murphy, 72, of Columbia, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Rhonda Burton, after an illness.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1944 in Chicago, Ill.

She was the daughter of the late Hansel and Rosa Hill Loy of Adair County and the widow of Laymar Murphy, who preceded her in death on April 1, 2005. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Murphy and one step daughter, Della Mae Mendoza.

She is survived by two daughters, Tamra (Darrell) Helm of Breeding and Rhonda (Tony) Burton of Columbia; three step daughters, Leona (Phillip) Akin of Columbia, Charlotte Faye (Bobby) York of Russell Springs and Carlotte George of Russell Springs; three brothers, Freddie Loy, Raymond Loy and Harold Loy; and by one sister, Peggy Furkin of Columbia.

Six grandchildren, six step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces, nephew and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Betty was a member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church in Breeding and was a homemaker.

Funeral service is today at 1 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Janes officiating with burial in Antioch Cemetery.

Pallbearers are William Helm, Michael Burton, James Murphy, Derick Murphy, Jared Stargel and David Wheat.
