Carroll “Turkey” Matthews

Carroll D. “Turkey” Matthews, 83, of Kenosha, Wis., formerly of Adair County, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 at his residence with his family present. He was born on Aug. 26, 1933, in White Plaines and was the son of the late Rev. Richard Vernon and Anna Belle (Clark) Matthews. He grew up in Columbia where he played basketball for Columbia High School. He went to serve two years in the U.S. Army and two years in the U.S. Air Force. He married Fusako Hoshino in Japan. She preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 2002. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Clara Conover, Jesse Matthews and Richard Matthews. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Cook of Kenosha; a granddaughter, Tina Marie (Jeff) Peadro of Kenosha; two great-grandsons, Wyatt and Carter both of Kenosha; and five siblings, Tula Peterson, Mildred White, Thomas Matthews all of Kentucky, and Christine Greenman and Virginia Ward, both of Indiana. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 27 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with a memorial service to immediately follow.
