Gertie M. Giles, 84, of Columbia, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at her home of a sudden illness.
She was born on Aug. 18, 1932 in Adair County, to the late Cary Hughes Willis and Frank Willis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Susie Lee White and Mary Katherine Johnson; her brother, Nathaniel Billy Willis; and by a great grandson, Demetrius “DJ” Johnson.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired from Lindsey Wilson College after 17 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Lynn C. Giles of Frankfort; and by two sons, Ron H. (Tina) Giles of Frankfort and Ricky (Linda) Giles of Maryland.
Four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral service was Saturday, Nov. 19 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Henry L. Mosley delivering the eulogy with burial in the Jone Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Shawn White, Darren Smith, Ricardo Hughes, Michael Troy White, Stanley Jonson and Everick Bradshaw.
Honorary casket bearers were Lynn Green, Craig Lasley, Brian White, Yves White, L.B. Smith and Danny Taylor.
