Sarah H. Coop, 89, of Columbia, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 at Summit Manor Health and Rehab Center.
She was born on April 17, 1923, in Burkesville and was the daughter of the late Culbert and Ethel Groce Riddle and the widow of Hershel W. Coop, who preceded her in death on May 10, 1982.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Coop of Columbia; one step son, Willie Van Coop and his wife Ophelia of Louisville; two step daughters, Helen Melton of Charlestown, Ind. and Marie Cantrell of Louisville; one daughter-in-law, Sara Frances Coop of Columbia; two brothers, Gene Riddle of Greensburg and Sherman Riddle of Indiana; four sisters, Maxie Kingrey and Mary Crumpton of Summer Shade; Nina Birge of Gamalia and Noxie Coffey of Glasgow.
Twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Carl and Robert Coop; two step sons, Fred Coop and Ray Coop; and by one brother and four sisters, Leo Riddle, Hettie Rush, Cleo Miller, Bell Melton and Lucy Rouse.
Sarah was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral service was Friday, Dec. 28 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Pescosolido and Rev. P.T. Barnum officiating with interment in Haven Hill Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to be in the form of Gideons Bibles.
Pallbearers were John David McQueary, Izak McQueary, Dwight Isaacs, Greg Coop, Troy Coop, Bill Tackett, Mike Cantrell, Phil Rowland and Adam Cantrell.
Honorary pallbearers were Marshall and Sue Smith, Don and Carol Burton, Mark, Roxann and Marketta Lawless and Nathan Hale.
