After Glasgow win, Indians gear up for historic Hart County match

For their sixth win of the season, the Adair County Indians maintained their flawless streak by defeating Glasgow last Thursday 21 to 14—the first win from the Indians against Glasgow in two decades.
Highlights from the game include Solomon Stonebraker who made a 70-yard kickoff return with a kick from Blane Bardin. Stonebraker also made a 37 pass from Easton Jessie with a Bardin kick. A third Bardin kick led to Aidan Smith making a 73 kickoff return.
Jessie being listed among the highlights is even more significant given his leg—he has played the last two games with a torn ACL, having elected to delay the surgery to repair it until after the season. He sustained the injury three weeks ago and Coach Stonebraker says he did well in spite of the tear.
“He’s moving around on it, very confident in it,” Coach Stonebraker said. “The things we ask him to do, he can do at a very high level.”
Lane Grant was also injured last week, but Coach Stonebraker stated he would be ready to play by Friday.
For Stonebraker’s part, he was recognized by Glasgow media as TJ Samson’s player of the game—in a game against Glasgow. Stonebraker was also announced as the Mike and Will Show Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Monroe County the week before.
For Glasgow, some high points were Barren County athlete Jaylen Bradley making 13 pass from Hudson Gumm with Jared Malagon kicking. Trace Smith with a 64 pass from Gumm, also with Malagon kicking.
Of the game, the Indians’ head coach Steve Stonebraker put into perspective the historical significance of the win for Adair County. “I told our players that I was proud of them for fighting through a week of practice where we were in cafeterias and gyms and then getting to game night and competing through the conditions and injuries to get a huge win. It’s always great to get a win and then to get a district win. But to be able to beat a Franklin-Simpson team that Adair football hasn’t beaten since 2004 and then to beat a Glasgow team for the first time since 1997 is a real feather in the cap for these guys.’”
The win will hopefully give a further morale boost to the team as they prepare for Friday’s game against Hart County, the number two ranked team in the state and last season’s district and regional champs. This game will prove to be a pivotal one for both teams. Adair and Hart each have six wins under their belt and have yet to suffer a loss this season. With plenty to lose, it will be a major showdown. A win for Adair would also secure them the district title. Meanwhile, Hart county would have to win one more game; Adair County has played an extra game in its district than Hart County has.
“Now we get a chance to turn our attention to the number two ranked team in the state (Hart County) who will come here next week as we will play for the first district title in school history. What’s going to be important this game are all of the things that win any football game. We just have to be ready to exceed their effort level, focus level and level of physicality. We can’t be worried about homecoming and any other peripheral thing going on. To win this game we have to have laser sharp focus,” Coach Stonebraker said. “We continue to win games in the regular season. We would have three regular season games left. We take them one game at a time like we always have and just try and win this one.”
Getting that title may appear to be a daunting task for the Indians, but with their back-to-back unprecedented wins against opponents Franklin-Simpson and Glasgow, the team has proven they are up to any challenge.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Friday with homecoming events at 5:45 p.m.
