Coomer signs with Morehead State, a Division 1 university

Brayton Coomer, a senior at Adair County High School, has officially signed his national letter of intent to play baseball at Morehead State University.
Coomer said Morehead began recruiting him during travel ball last summer and he committed in the fall.
“I thought Morehead would be the best choice for me because I liked the coaching staff there, it is in a small town like home, and if I do my role I can come in and play a big part in the team and see time on the field as a freshman,” said Coomer.
Head coach Ryan McQueary said Coomer is the first baseball player he is aware of to ever be recruited to a Division 1 school from ACHS.
Coomer said he began playing when his parents signed him up for tee ball. He said that when he was little, he always had a baseball in his hand.
“I just picked it up and really enjoyed it,” he said.
Athletic wise, Coomer names McQueary as one of his biggest role models.
“He has coached me all the way through. He started us with travel ball when I was really young,” Coomer said. “Then he coached me during 7th grade and all throughout high school.”
McQueary’s pride in Coomer’s accomplishments is obvious.
“I have always treated Brayton like one of my sons, loved him, took care of him and punished him all the same,” said McQueary. “I always knew that Brayton had some special abilities as a baseball player. The sky is the limit for him, and I’m excited to see just how far he can go when he gets to focus solely on baseball.”
Coomer has received numerous accolades for his baseball career. He currently holds the single season and all-time home run records for Adair County, he is ranked number one in the state in home runs for the season, and was Will Show’s Kentucky High School baseball player of the week last week.
“What you put in is what you will get out of it. If you want to go far, make sure you live in the weight room and get stronger,” is the advice that Coomer would give to anyone wanting to excel in baseball.
As for his future goals, Coomer said he would be majoring in business management at Morehead. His ultimate goal is to be drafted to major league baseball.
