Davenport named District 2 Magistrate

Todd Davenport has been named by Gov. Andy Beshear as District 2 magistrate to fill the vacancy after Daryl Flatt’s resignation in March. Davenport was officially sworn in last Thursday.
“The older I get the more I want to be a servant of the county,” said Davenport. “I retired from the state in December, so this felt like a perfect opportunity.”
He graduated from Adair County High School in 1995 and Lindsey Wilson College in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree. Davenport began working as a youth worker in 2000 and worked at the Adair Youth Development Center in different capacities until 2020, when he was promoted to justice program administrator.
Davenport, a Democrat, replaces Flatt, a Republican, who had held the office for 13 years.
Three-fourths of the voters in his district are registered Republicans. Even so, prior to Flatt holding the position, Democrat William “Wid” Harris served several terms.
“My hope is that the residents in District 2 understand that it is not just a political position. I am supposed to be the voice of a Republican, Democrat and whoever is in my district,” said Davenport. “I want to get to know everyone in my district.”
Davenport said he is not going into the position with a specific agenda.
“I don’t have any predetermined ideas about taxes and all these things, that I want to decide on right now. I want to learn more about what is going on in the fiscal court,” he said. “I want to meet as many people in my district as I can and find out their opinions and move forward from there. I want people to feel free to reach out to me.”
Davenport has been involved in Little League and is currently the band booster president.
“I have a true understanding and a true belief in civic duty and how important it is,” said Davenport. “I want to be a good steward of civic duty.”
Davenport has been married to Cayce, an art teacher at Adair County High School, for 20 years. They have two children, Lash, a senior, and Emmett, a 6th grader.
