The Adair County Indians claimed two back-to-back wins this week. The team scored a major victory against the Marion County Knights and managed to cut the George Rogers Clark Cardinals off from a three-game winning streak by a single point.
On Friday, the boys followed up a winning girls’ game against Marion County by quickly rocketing ahead on the scoreboard to an insurmountable lead. At the final buzzer, the Indians won 89 to 64. By halftime, when the boys sat at 45 to 22, it was apparent that Marion stood a fairly slim chance at a comeback.
Before the game, Adair County High School senior Brayton Coomer was awarded with a special basketball for surpassing 1,000 career points in a game against Bowling Green last month.
Coomer went on to put up major numbers against the Knights, tying for third place against junior athlete Dawson Gilbert with 12 points scored that night.
Connor Loy came out on top by racking up 22 total points by way of scoring six out of seven attempted two-pointers, one of three attempted three-pointers, and by making seven out of the nine free-throws he shot.
As a whole, for the Marion County game, the boys made 27 field goals out of 45 tries. They also made over 75% of their free-throws, scoring 25 out of 33 attempted. The team had 32 rebounds.
Against the George Rogers Clark boys, the Adair County Indians had something of a tougher time. The game ended 62 to 61 in favor of the Indians. In this game, the team attempted more field goals, but made less of them, too. They scored 24 out of 55 attempts.
