Adair County head baseball coach Ryan McQueary was named 5th Region Coach of the Year. The team finished their season with a 23-11 record and a trip to the regional tournament.
McQueary has coached the Adair County Indians for close to 20 years.
He started in 2000 and stepped away for a few years and then returned.
McQueary said this award is voted on by all of the coaches in the 5th region. It will officially be presented to him in January at the annual coaches convention.
“The awards and honors are nice. I don’t receive that on just me. It’s having the assistant coaches and a good talented team that’s coachable. Being voted something like that among your peers is nice,” he said.
“We had a good season. It ended a little sooner than we had hoped. A trip to the state tournament this week in Lexington would have been nice and I assure you I would trade that award for still being able to play at this time of year,” said McQueary.
As a team, they will begin practicing and conditioning again in September. McQueary said that some of the players would play travel ball this summer with various teams across the state.
