With a new track and the return of crowd favorite events, the Adair County Fair is just around the corner.
The fair kicks off on Tuesday, July 15 and runs through Saturday, July 19. With the exception of the floral hall, all events will be held at the new fairgrounds located on Industrial Drive.
Making a comeback this year are two nights of demolition derbies. A small car derby wil be held on Friday night and a big car derby on Saturday night.
The fair association has developed a new track that is 120 foot wide and 350 foot long.
The track was built in with safety being a top priority. There is a lawn that comes up on each side of the track where patrons can sit in lawn chairs or on blankets and view the event, and above that area will be bleacher seating.
There are more 4-H events at the fair this year, beginning with a 4-H dog show and a 4-H rabbit and poultry show.
The 4-H and Cloverbud Floral Hall exhibits will be open for viewing on Tuesday, July 28 and Wednesday, July 29. The floral hall exhibits will be located at the Extension office on Fairground Street.
Fox Creek Carnival will be set up with rides, games, and concessions each night. The carnival will have 12 or more rides and will include classics such as a ferris wheel, tilt-a-whirl, and merry-go-round. All rides are included in the $10 admission price.
Pageants will return this year and be held on three different nights.
“We hope to have the open pavilion completed in time to have the pageants outside underneath it,” said volunteer Charles Grimsley.
Sponsorships for the fair are still being accepted. The Adair County Fair Association is a non-profit organization. For more information, contact Jamie Hadley at 270-250-3075.
