Seven candidates file for city council

Only one candidate for Columbia City Council will walk away from the Nov. 5 general election disappointed with seven people filing for the six seats.
All the current incumbents have filed for re-election along with former council member Craig Dean. Current members on the ballot are Ronald “Butch” Rogers, Mark Harris, Sharon Payne, Robert Flowers, Rhonda Loy and Hannah Peck.
There will also be a choice for voters in the school board position in District 4. Incumbent David Karnes will face Teresa Absher in the nonpartisan race.
Incumbents Dana King, District 2; and Troy Grider, District 5; will not face opposition.
Four people have filed for the four Soil Conservation District seats. They are Larry Burton, James E. Bennett, Brent Baker and Mike McMinoway. Because there is no opposition, they will not be on the ballot in November.
Circuit Clerk Dennis Loy will not face opposition to keep that position. The circuit clerk’s election is held every six years.
