Yvonne Marshall Knifley Schneider, 84, of Somerset, formerly of Leesburg, Fla., passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 at The Neighborhood Skilled Nursing Facility in Somerset, after several months illness.

She was born in Columbia on Dec. 6, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Richard Paul and Mollie Epperson Marshall.

She graduated from Columbia High School in 1945, obtained an Associate of Arts degree from Lindsey Wilson College in 1947, a Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1963, and a Master of Education degree from University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1971.

She taught for more than 31 years including schools in Auburn, Carrollton, Louisville, Eminence, Charlotte, N.C., Greensboro, N.C., and Leesburg, Fla.

She was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church in Leesburg, Fla., Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and Order of Eastern Star.

She was an avid tennis player and ballroom dancer, and taught ballroom dance classes in Leesburg area for more than 25 years.

She married Ivan Knifley in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1979. She later married John Schneider in 1993 and he preceded her in death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Anna Marie Davis.

She is survived by one sister, Ida Catherine Marshall of Somerset, a sister-in-law, Louise Knifley Spires of Columbia, and by several nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by the caring staff and friends of The Neighborhood in Somerset, caregivers from Comfort Keepers of Somerset, and by a special caregiver and friend, Ruby Tomlinson of Somerset.

A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m. at Haven Hill Cemetery with Bro. Ron Coffey officiating. Cremation was chosen. There will be no visitation.
