Odell Corbin

Mr. Odell Corbin of Columbia, KY, son of the late Charlie and Louella Corbin, was born on November 5, 1931 in Columbia, KY.  He departed this life on May 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family having attained the age of 90 years, 5 months and 27 days.

He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of Columbia First Church of the Nazarene where he served on the board as Sunday School superintendent, usher and many other roles.

Odell was retired from Jeffries Hardware.  He also worked at E. J. Milby Builders Supply in Greensburg.  He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army.

Odell loved taking care of his yard, tending to his flowers and spending time with his family and friends.

He united in marriage to Shirley Gowen Corbin on June 25, 1955 in Mansville, KY, who survives.  In addition to his wife he is survived by two children Barry Corbin (Cheryl) and Debbie Willis (Mark) both of Columbia, KY; five grandchildren Brooke Walker (Cameron Garmon), Holly Loy (Kasey), Heather Ford (Rodney), Kayla Stockton (John) and Lindsay Dunbar (Seth); twelve great grandchildren, Jamison Ford, Alex Loy, Andrew Loy, Kailey Garmon, Kelsi Walker, Kenli Walker, Hayden Ford, Cole Stockton, Kharli Stockton, Cruz Stockton, Corbin Dunbar and Avery Ford; two sisters, Elizabeth Vanarsdale (JC) and Shirley Gilpin, both of Columbia, KY, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Eurial and Harlan Corbin and three sisters Lydia Matney, Beatrice Coffey and Runa Willis.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and will continue on Friday morning until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Rev. David Kemp will be officiating and pallbearers will be Cameron Garmon, Kasey Loy, Rodney Ford, John Stockton, Seth Dunbar, Jamison Ford, Alex Loy and Andrew Loy.  Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Burton

Mary Elizabeth Burton, 74, of Mount Sherman, Kentucky, formerly of Columbia, died Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.

She was born November 28, 1947, in Adair County, to the late James O. and Mae Roy Burton.  Mary had been at Greensburg Family Care Home for the last three years with Veronica Bell as her caretaker.

She is survived by a special friend, Norma Scott of Columbia and a friend, Virginia Garner of Russell Springs

Funeral service – Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home

Lydia N. Turner

Lydia N. Turner, 83, formerly of 104 Marshall St. Columbia, died Saturday, April 30 at 4:15 p.m. at Summerfield Rehab and Wellness Center in Louisville, Kentucky.  She was born on September 16, 1938 to the late Arturo and Olga de la Zerda of Floresville, Texas.

Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Brock of London, KY; two sons Arthur L. Turner and his wife Tammy of Louisville, KY and Charlie R. Turner and his wife Carla of Liberty, KY; one sister Connie Mass of San Antonio, TX; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Lydia was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Lewis Turner. They were married for 33 years. She will be remembered as a loving woman devoted to her faith, family, and friends. She was also an active and committed parishioner of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Columbia.

Visitation will take place at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 4 from 4-8 p.m. with a Vigil service at 6 p.m. conducted by Father Paul Eve.  Visitation will continue on Thursday morning at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home until 10:45 a.m.

A Funeral Mass will take place at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1217 Greensburg St., Columbia, on Thursday, May 5 at 11 a.m., with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

Father Patrick Dolan will celebrate the Funeral Mass.  Pallbearers will be Joshua Turner, Nicholas Turner, Vincent Turner, Derek Summers, Dave Brock, and Jerry Giles.

Honorary: Robert Flowers, Mark Dykes, Bryan Caldwell, Larry Dudley, Jack Garrett, Richard Fitzpatrick, Darrell Jones, and David Bowman.

Janice Antle Burris

Janice Antle Burris, 65, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday April 5, 2022 at her residence.  She was born in Russell County, Kentucky on October 2, 1956 to the late Arnold and Susie Morgan Antle.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ricky Burris on April 12, 2020 and six siblings Randy Antle, James Antle, Glen Antle, Linda Antle, Elouise Bradshaw and an infant brother.

Janice was a member of the Egypt Christian Church and was a certified nursing assistant for Personal Touch Home Health for several years.

Survivors include two children Angie Burris and Tonya Wall (Anthony) both of Columbia, KY; four grandchildren, Mark Hutcheson, Makenna Wall, Cade Wall, Dalani Harris; two brothers, Kenneth Antle (Carolyn) and Ralph Antle (Shirley) of Russell Springs, KY; three sisters, Carolyn Wade (Jerry) Russell Springs, KY, Patsy Ball (Russell) Madisonville, KY and Elaine Conover (Bruce) Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral service was Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation was on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and continued Thursday until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may be in the form of a donation to Egypt Christian Church and may be left at the funeral home.

Bro. Paul Patton officiated and pallbearers were Justin Burris, Ryan Burris, Jackie Grider, Kelby Grider, Thomas Wade, and Anthony Wall.

Mia Jade Darnell

Mia Jade Darnell went to her heavenly home on Monday April 4, 2022 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. She is the daughter of Jeremy and Lakisha Downey Darnell of Cave City, KY.

In addition to her parents Jeremy & Lakisha Darnell she is survived by her Maternal Grandparents Crystal and David George of Russell Springs, KY; her Paternal Grandparents Doug and Rebecca Richardson Darnell of Russell Springs, KY; her adopted Grandparent Betty Downey of Russell Springs, KY; a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.

A graveside service was Thursday April 8, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Haven Hill Cemetery with burial to follow.  Bro. David Karnes will be officiating.

Jean Nedra Sanders

Jean Nedra Sanders, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the University of Louisville Hospital. She was preceded in death by Charles Thomas Sanders, her husband of 58 years, along with her parents, George Pierce and Edith Marie Adams, and her siblings, Jerry Mathes and Bobby Adams.

Her survivors include: son, Steve Sanders and friend, Tina Perkins; daughter, Carol Schick (Bob); four grandchildren: Chris Sanders and friend, April McQueary; Jason Sanders (Valerie); Tracy Bunch (Clifton); and Clark Duerr (Jessica); five great-grandchildren: Kendall Tate (John); Zane Sanders (Macy); Collin Sanders, Wyatt Bunch, Waylynn Bunch; and three great-great-grandchildren: Emory Jo Sanders, Daxton Mann, and Oaklynn Tate. Jean is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and several other very special family friends.

Jean was born June 26, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois and relocated with her family to Lantana, Florida at the age of 6. After graduating from Lake Worth High School in 1942, she cancelled her plans to attend college in Chicago, choosing instead to work for the Western Union in support of our military troops. Married on March 14, 1948, later in 1962, she again relocated to Columbia, Kentucky along with her spouse and children. Jean worked at the Adair County Health Department from 1965 to 1989, where she thoroughly enjoyed helping the many residents of Adair County.  Jean loved the Lord and her church family at Trinity United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching the young adult Sunday School Class.

Jean volunteered with the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and was a life-time member of the Lake Worth, Florida Eastern Star.  As a homemaker, Jean especially enjoyed family gatherings where she made sure your favorite dish was on the table! Her pound cakes, lemon pies and Christmas cookies were shared with many, and she consistently claimed the title as primary winner of the family card game, “May I”, well into her 90’s.  Her green thumb was evidenced by her beautiful flowers and fresh summer veggies!

Jean offered encouragement to everyone she encountered, was always full of energy, and overflowed with joy and cheerfulness. She was loved by all everywhere she went. As a final wish, Jean donated her body to the University of Louisville School of Research and Science upon her death. Her body is now available to assist with training of new medical students.  In lieu of an immediate funeral, the family will soon host a celebration of her life with more details to follow.

Clayton Timothy ‘Tim’ Compton

Clayton Timothy “Tim” Compton, 65, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at his residence.  He was born on July 20, 1956 in San Antonio, TX to the late Clayton Howard and Virginia Eileen Coleman Compton.

Tim attended the Sparksville Baptist Church, retired from SKF Industries and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.  He was a former Sparksville Little League coach and enjoyed hunting, fishing, University of Kentucky basketball and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Victoria Buchanan Compton of Columbia, KY; two daughters, Candice Robertson (Todd) and Crystal Kingrey (Jonathan) both of Columbia, KY; six grandchildren, Abagail Robertson Fleming (Ethan), Riley Robertson, Annabelle Robertson, Benjamin Kingrey, Beckham Kingrey and Beatrice Kingrey; a great granddaughter, Evelyn Fleming; two brothers, Mark Compton (Debbie) of Edmonton, KY and Daniel Compton (Mary) of Lacy Lakeview, TX; and a special friend and cousin Ernie Wagoner of Glasgow, KY.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Sparksville Baptist Church with military honors provided by VFW Post 6097 and cremation to follow the services.  Interment of the remains will be held at a later date at the Moore Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home and will continue on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Sparksville Baptist Church.

Bro. Darrell Landis will be officiating and honorary pallbearers will be Todd Robertson, Jonathon Kingrey, Benjamin Kingrey, Ernie Wagoner, Beckham Kingrey, Nathan Compton and Riley Robertson.

Beverly J. Payne

Mother Beverly J. Payne transitioned peacefully from this life on March 19, 2022, to her Heavenly Home. She was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was preceded  in death by her parents, John Pollard and May Fouts. She was also preceded in death by three siblings, a sister Patricia Ivy, and two brothers, John Pollard and Johnny Lee.

She cherished 53 years of life, and 49 years of marriage with her husband, Bishop Billy Ray Payne, who passed away on December 26, 2021. She is survived by the following children: Daniel (Bonnie) Farris, Brandon Florida; Ronald (Donna) Farris, Danville Ky.; Sherry (Lee) McCree, Indianapolis Indiana; Joseph Carter Farris, Stanford Ky.; Elizabeth (James) Morrow, Indianapolis Indiana; Lorna Wyatt, Atlanta Georgia; Clayton (Debbie) Farris, Indianapolis Indiana; Eric Farris (Pam), Stanford Ky.; Brenda Payne, Chicago Illinois; William Ray Payne, Jr, Lagrange Ky.; and Anthony (Peggy) Payne, Columbia Ky.

She is survived by three sisters: Kathy Horn, Pamela Hughes and Nancy Gingery.  She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-, great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of niece and nephews, and in-laws.

Beverly “adopted” Joshua and Stephanie Cheatham and their daughters as her own! She also “adopted” her niece Kimberly Wells and nephew Joseph Lee Farris of Stanford Ky.

Ms. Joyce Morrison, case manager, confidant, friend and daughter was very special in Beverly’s life.

A special “thank you” to Peggy Payne (daughter in love), for her unfaltering love, kindness and 24 hours dedicated service and unconditional love!

She was a member of the Eunice Church of God and served faithfully and fully supported her Pastor Elder CR Payne. She will be greatly missed by many as she would always say, when asked how she was doing, she would respond with “I’m Blessed”.

Home Going service – was Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 12 p.m. at Eunice Church of God with Pastor Elder C.R. Payne officiating. Burial in Columbia Cemetery

Freddie Ray Denton

Freddie Ray Denton, 66, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.  He was born December 27, 1955 in Adair County, KY to the late James Russell and Josephine Burton Denton.

Freddie attended Green River Valley Separate Baptist Church.  He was a devoted husband, father, poppy/peepaw, friend and neighbor who enjoyed working with horses and visiting friends at the Sano Store where he was better known as Fred.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharlet Oakes Denton of Columbia; son David Denton of Columbia, KY; daughter Tiffany Reynolds (Rodney) of Columbia, KY; three grandchildren Sadie, Hayley and Jake Reynolds; one great grandson Bentley Burton; two brothers Jimmy Denton (Juanita) and J. W. Denton (Mitchelene) both of Columbia, KY; three sisters Sandra Bryant (Willard), Marty Ellis (Jimmy) and Minnie Smith (Barry) all of Columbia, KY; a sister-in-law Fayrene Denton of Columbia, KY and special friends and neighbors Troy Green (Cheryl) and family of Columbia, KY.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Jeff Denton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday from 5-8 p.m., and will continue on Sunday morning until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Bro. Casey Davis will be officiating and pallbearers will be Rodney Reynolds, Jake Reynolds, Toby Green, Troy Green, Jesse Green and Royce Oakes.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bentley Burton, Kasey Robinson and Kevin Grider.

Shyanna Marie Harmon

Shyanna Marie Harmon, 13, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Sunday, March 20, 2022 at TJ Health/Columbia Emergency Room from injuries received in an automobile accident in Adair County.

She was born May 14, 2008 in Campbellsville, Kentucky.  Shyanna was an eighth grader at Adair County Middle School where she sang in the choir.

Survivors include: parents – Terry and Amber Luck Harmon of Columbia; sisters – Haleigh Harmon and Gracie Harmon both of Columbia; brothers – Alex Harmon and Micheal Harmon both of Columbia; grandparents – Clifford Harmon, Faye Cook, Gina Luck and Papa Dean Langford all of Columbia; a Special Best Friend – Skyler Gilbert of Columbia; and several other relatives and friends

Funeral service – Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Adair County Middle School. Burial in Freedom Cemetery

Donald Hugh “Don” Yates

Donald Hugh “Don” Yates, 82, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Monday, March 14, 2022 at Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia.

He was born August 13, 1939, in Adair County, to the late Hugh and Dimple Reeves Yates. Don was a successful businessman, owning and operating Don Yates Drilling, a member of Columbia Baptist Church, had been attending Mt. Zion Community Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Survivors include: wife – Frieda Thompson Yates of Columbia; daughter – Donna Sue Yates of Columbia; son – Brent Allen Yates of Columbia; grandson – Waydon Tyler Yates of Lexington; brother – Bobby Yates of Columbia; sisters – Sue Yates Williams of Albany and Betty Yates Bitterling (Ross) of Bowling Green; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Kevin R. Jones

Kevin R. Jones, 35, of Knifley, Kentucky, died Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born November 8, 1986 in Campbellsville, Kentucky.  Kevin was a member of Knifley Christian Church, an Eagle Scout and was employed by Adair Fiscal Court as a Dispatcher and Mapping Coordinator for the Adair County E-911 Center.

Of all the jobs he had done, his current was the most rewarding.  Being a servant to the people was something he loved and was fighting his illness to be able to come back to work.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kerry R. Jones in 2016 and his first wife Christena Jones in 2014.

Survivors include: wife – Paige Lynn Jones of Knifley; mother – Connie Tucker Jones of Knifley; sister – Kristy (Tony) Norris of Highland, Michigan; nephews – Sam and Josh Norris; a special little girl, Annemarie; and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral service – Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. CST at Columbia Christian Church, 206 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, Kentucky with Bro. Troy Long officiating. Burial in Roley Cemetery

Beatrice Coomer Beard (Bea)

Beatrice Coomer Beard (Bea), of Columbia, Kentucky, entered into everlasting life on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Signature Health Care – Summit Manor.  She was 92.

Bea was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Horace Pearman Beard “Harry” a native of Richmond, VA; her parents, Joseph Haskin Coomer and Myrtle (Janes) Coomer of Columbia, KY; one sister, Bernice (Coomer) Murphy of Columbia; and one brother, Norman Coomer of Columbia.

She is survived by one son, James Douglas Beard “Doug” of Columbia.  Her nephews, Steve (Lou Ann) Coomer and Glenn (Cynthia) Murphy; her nieces, Susan (Mark) Willis and Anjanette (Mike, deceased) Volk, several great nephews and nieces also survive.

She was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church. Bea and her husband were married in the Columbia Methodist Church on October 14, 1955. As a member of the church for over 75 years, she participated in many programs including the United Methodist Women, the Golden Girls, the Kupples Class, the Administrative Board and as the co-chairperson of the art glass sanctuary windows project.  At the time of her passing, she was the longest tenured member of the congregation.

After graduating from Lindsey Wilson College, Bea taught school briefly and then joined the family business, Coomer’s Restaurant, a legendary Columbia institution on the public square from 1943-1986.

During her life, she was involved with two homemaker’s organizations, with the last being the Columbia Daylight Homemaker’s Club; the Junior Women’s Club, and the Adair County Republican Women.  She was also inducted in the Golden Alumni Society at Lindsey Wilson College.

She and her husband, Harry, were blessed to have traveled extensively around the world. They visited 34 countries across the globe and journeyed to all seven continents on the face of the earth. They traversed both the Arctic and Antarctic Circles.  They also traveled a great deal throughout the United States.  They experienced “God’s Wonderful Creation” together.  Though extensive global travels with her husband, Bea was an inspiration to her son to explore our beautiful world.  He made this a priority during his professional career and continues along this course in his personal journey.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue on Friday from 12-1 p.m. at the Columbia United Methodist Church.

A litany of Passing from this Life into a Celebration of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Columbia United Methodist Church in Columbia, KY.   Interment will be in the Columbia City Cemetery.

Dr. John Hatton and Rev. Rob Hoffman will preside over her Service of Remembrance and Celebration of the Resurrection.

Coy Froedge

Coy Froedge, 76, of Columbia, died Monday, January 31, 2022 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

He was born January 3, 1946, in Adair County, to the late William McKinley and Pearl Parson Froedge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Claire; six brothers; Emmett, Lester, Wesley, Cecil, J.C. and Carl Froedge; and two sisters, Marie McInteer and Ann Maesk.

Coy was a member of Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church and owner of Coy Froedge Logging.

Survivors include: wife – Alma Maxine Corbin Froedge of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law – Shelly and Jamie Bennett of Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law – Frankie and Ashley Froedge and Daniel and Jessica Froedge, all of Columbia; seven grandchildren – Kendall, Ethan, Molly, Savannah, Ava, Ellisyn and Tristan; one great-grandchild – Ash; and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral service – Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 1 p.m. mat Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Hank Gibson officiating.

Burial in the Coomer Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home.

Larry “Two” Dixon, 72, of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in Columbia, KY.  He was born in Louisville, KY on December 7, 1949 to the late Morris K. and Leona Huffman Dixon.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Dick” Dixon.

Mr. Dixon was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and retired after 26 years from the Army Reserves Unit 5010 in Louisville, KY, where he attained the rank of SFC.  Larry was known as charismatic and never met a stranger, he was an avid hunter, trapper and he enjoyed tanning hides of the animals he trapped.  He also enjoyed antiquing and photography.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Meg” Dixon of Columbia, KY; a sister, Cindy Oglesby (Bud) of Simpsonville, KY; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends and relatives.

A visitation will be on Monday, January 24, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. CST at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

A visitation will be on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. eastern time at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home @ 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. eastern time at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at the Pennsylvania Run Cemetery.

Father Pat Dolan will be officiating and pallbearers will be John Duncan, Stephen McFall, Dale Shafer, Mike Shafer, Jerry Payne, Terry Payne and Tom Grimes.

Shannon Lea West, age 40, of Versailles , KY passed away Tuesday, January 18 2022 at U.K. Hospital .

She was born on Thursday, May 28 1981, in Columbia, Kentucky.

She was the daughter of: Mother – Patricia Evans West, of Russell Springs, KY; and Father – Jackie West, of Russell Springs, KY

Survivors also include: Brother: Brian West, spouse Cindy, of Russell Springs KY. She is also survived by one nephew, Terence West; and one niece, Paisley West. She was a Re-entry Coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Corrections and attended Main Street Church of God.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. CST Friday, January 21 2022 at Wilson Funeral Home, 391 East Steve Wariner Drive, Russell Springs, KY.

Louise Iona Duncan Peyton

Louise Iona Duncan Peyton was born November 16, 1930 in Monticello, Kentucky and departed this life on January 1, 2022 at her home in Campbellsville, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mamie Brown Duncan and George Duncan of Monticello, Ky.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Duncan and Maxine Goggins; three brothers, Gene Duncan, Steve Duncan and Allen Duncan; two sons, Chester Lee Duncan and Eddie James Peyton; and one daughter, Carol Ann Duncan.

She is survived by two daughters and one son, Margie Hunter of Campbellsville, Ky. Rita Peyton and Ronnie Duncan of Monticello, Ky.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Carol Cowan, Angela Clayton, Anna Noyola, Cliff Hunter, James Hunter, all of Campbellsville, Ky.; Joanne Payne, Lisa Hunter, Joyce Sheppard, all of Columbia, Ky.; Jonathan Peyton of Georgetown, Ky., and Maurice Duncan of Monticello, Ky.

She is also survived by two sisters, Hazel Coffey of Lexington,Ky and Carolyn Duncan of Glasgow, Ky

She’s also survived by 26 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

The 1st Visitation will be Wednesday January 5, 2022, beginning at 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. EST at New Life Church of God of Holiness on 623 East Broadway Street in Campbellsville, Ky. 42718

The 2nd Visitation and Funeral will be Thursday January 6, 2022 beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. EST, following the funeral to start at 12:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Church at 2976 KY-3106 Monticello, KY  42633

James Bolin “Jim” Beard

James Bolin “Jim” Beard, 79, of Louisville, KY died Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at V. A. Hospital in Louisville, KY.  He was born in Columbia, KY on July 30, 1942 to the late John H. and Dorothy Bailey Beard.

Mr. Beard was of the Baptist faith and retired from the U. S. Army.  He served during the Vietnam War and received many awards including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  He was a member of the VFW Post 6097 and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include a daughter Kim Spencer of McDonough, GA; his former wife and caregiver Jo Osborne Beard of Louisville, KY and former wife and mother of his children Sandra Rowe Beard of McDonough, GA; two step daughters Angela Murphy (David) of Scottsburg, IN and Carrie Allen (Ron Sidebottom) of Louisville, KY; nine grandchildren Chad, Kelly, Corey, Blake, Adam, Katelyn, Lilly, Levi and William; six great grandchildren; a sister Peggy Nix (Eddie) of Louisville, KY; his best friend Billy Wright of Columbia and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Debra Pogue, and four siblings Rebecca Corbett, Sarah Strickland, Bobby Beard and Carrie Dillingham.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Columbia Cemetery.  Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 6097.  Visitation will be on Monday after 11 a.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Kaylee Tennison Frost

Kaylee Tennison Frost, 28, of Hodgenville, KY and formerly of Columbia, KY died Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY.  She was born in Glasgow, KY on May 6, 1993 to Terry and Sherry Phillips of Columbia, KY who survives.

Kaylee was a member of the Emory Chapel United Methodist Church.  She was a 2011 graduate of Adair County High School and a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College with a Master’s Degree in Mental Health.  She specialized in children’s counseling and was passionate about her work.  She enjoyed being outdoors and gardening with her mom Sherry and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents Terry and Sherry Phillips she is survived by her husband Glenn Frost of Hodgenville, KY; her infant son Harlan Frost; a brother Brandon Phillips of Elizabethtown, KY; paternal grandmother Nada Sanders of Columbia, KY; her aunts and uncles Carson and Linda Lewis and Theresa and Ricky Stotts, all of Columbia, KY and her father and mother-in-law Glenn and Deborah Frost.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2021 at Trinity United Methodist Church with burial in the Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Jeffrey S. “Jeff” Cornell, 65, of the Breeding community, died Saturday, December 4, 2021 at TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow.

He was born December 22, 1955, to the late Lawrence Verner and June Etta Dart Cornell.   Jeff was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, a U.S. Air Force veteran having served three tours of duty in the Vietnam War, retired from the Adair County EMS, where he had been an EMT Instructor and a master craftsman.

Survivors include: wife – Mindy Hopkins Cornell of Breeding; daughter – Cassaundra Cornell-MacKenzie (Jamie) of Breeding; nephew – Tyler Austin Cornell, his wife Bailey and daughter Coralyn of San Diego, CA; brother – Larry Lyndon (Gayle) Cornell of North Carolina; sister – Bonnie Austina (Fred) Cornell-Budelman of North Carolina; and grandchildren – Jace and Colin.

Lynwood Goff

Lynwood Goff, 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, died Saturday, December 4, 2021 at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

He was born March 3, 1929, in Adair County, to the late James and Virginia Hunn Goff.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Stone Goff; and five siblings, Frances Lewis, Christine Cain, Elna Newton, Kathryn Goff and Anthony Goff.

Lynwood was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, of the Baptist faith and retired from Baptist Hospital Highlands.  He enjoyed his family that includes his dog, Max, and loved to shop with his family at yard sales and thrift stores.  He will be missed by his family on earth, but celebrated with his heavenly family.

Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law – Glenda and C.R. Davis, Carol and Donald Kohl all of Louisville; grandchildren – Lisbeth Schwedler, Nicole Walton, Loria Olea, Brittney Baxter, Blake Conn, and five great-grandchildren

Arvist Lee ‘Pee Wee’ Sinclair

Arvist Lee “Pee Wee” Sinclair, 82, of Columbia, died Friday, December 3, 2021 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY.  He was born on July 2, 1939 in Columbia, KY to the late Herbert and Ada Burton Sinclair.

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and retired from the Department of Forestry and Pride.  Pee Wee was a member of Masonic Lodge #96 and he was a Kentucky Colonel.  He enjoyed fishing, watching University of Kentucky ballgames and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Franklin Sinclair of Columbia; three children, Debbie Sinclair of Columbia, Kenny Sinclair of Columbia, and Lea Ann Hilton (Bill) of Coxs Creek, KY; six grandchildren, Melanie Gilpin, Waynaria Sinclair, Jordan Tyler Sinclair, Austin Lee Sinclair, Kyle Burton and Hannah Price; five great grandchildren, Jackson Sinclair, Kylie Sinclair, Allie Mae Sinclair, Hunter Lee Sinclair and Evelyn Madison Burton; a brother, Otis Sinclair (Louene) of Campbellsville, KY, and two special friends, Vickie Gilpin and Loretta Lawhorn.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Bearwallow Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Patricia Faye Darnell

Patricia Faye Darnell, 64, of Columbia, died Friday, November 19, 2021 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY.  She was born in Adair County, on November 4, 1957 to the late Edwin Paul Vanarsdale and Dorothy Montgomery Vanarsdale of Columbia, who survives.

Pat attended Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.  She was a giving and caring soul that always had a smile on her face.  Her greatest love was being “Nana” to her grandchildren and all of their friends.

Survivors include her loving husband Danny Darnell of Columbia; two sons, Adam Darnell (Karen) and Anthony Darnell (Shanna) both of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Colin, Lindsey, Callum, Liam, Evan, Kinley and Carson Darnell; her mother-in-law, Catherine Darnell of Columbia; three brothers, Ronnie Vanarsdale (Sandra) of Shelbyville, KY, Joe Vanarsdale (Anita) of Columbia, and Doug Vanarsdale (Pam) of Columbia, and several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Tommy Vanarsdale and Donna Hatfield.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Trinity United Methodist Church with burial in the Columbia Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Alvin Ray Roark, 79, of Campbellsville, Ky. died Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Green Hills Rehab and Care Center in Greensburg, KY.  He was born on October 30, 1942 in Bluefield, WV to the late Bonnie Taylor Roark.

Survivors include two children, Jeffrey Roark of Campbellsville, KY and Timmy Roark (Kendra) of Monticello, KY; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his wife Lillie Asberry Roark and seven siblings, Bertha, Joe, Fred, Otis, James and Lula Roark and Hazel Smith.

Clifton Price, 73, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, died Sunday, November 14, 2021 at his home.

He was born November 19, 1947, in Green County, to the late Ernest and Doris Gowen Price, and was employed by Campbellsville Industries.  He enjoyed pistol target shooting and attended the National Shooting Championship every year.

Phillip M. Shroyer

Phillip M. Shroyer, age 84, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on November 11, 2021 in Gulfport, MS.  Phillip was a resident of Gulfport since 2005.

Mr. Shroyer received his bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and his master’s degree from the University of Louisville.  He was a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army Artillery, from 1959 to 1966 and worked for the Veteran’s Administration.  Mr. Shroyer was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church of America and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Jonson and Alberta Norene Tramp Shroyer; sons, John Paxton Shroyer and Michael Phillip Shroyer; and his brother, Jon Roger Shroyer.

Mr. Shroyer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne Paxton Shroyer of Gulfport, MS; his daughter, Deanna Lynn Vogt (Larry) of Long Beach, MS; his sister-in-law, Sylvia Shroyer; his grandchildren, Katharine Anne, Tyler Houston, and Jessica Renae Shroyer, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kaleena Shroyer Lindsey, of KY, Anthony and Jessi David of Elizabethtown, KY, and Marshall Vogt of Selma, NC; and his great grandchildren, Ashton, Holly, and Amelia David.

Mr. Shroyer chose cremation and a memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, with burial in the Columbia Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Saturday, November 27, 2021 after 8:30 a.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Samuel Nell Brockman, age 79, of Russell Springs, passed away Monday, November 15 2021 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home.

He was born on Thursday, September 24 1942, in Columbia.

He was the son of: Lois Harmon Brockman, who has preceded him in death; and Owen Brockman, who has preceded him in death.

Survivors include: sister Exie West, of Russell Springs.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Free Union Separate Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Bunch, Silas Brockman, Carlos and Elsie Brockman.

Donald Gene Burton

Donald Gene Burton, 79, of Columbia, died Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at his residence.  He was born in Adair County, on March 16, 1942 to the late Zack and Emma Susan Willis Burton.  He was also preceded in death by his wife Mildred Jean Coffey Burton.

Mr. Burton was a member of the Bloomington Chapel Brethren in Christ Church, a former employee of the Adair County Jail and a veteran of the U. S. Army.  He enjoyed junking and antiques, and always finding or making a good deal.

Survivors include a son, Michael Burton of Alabama; a grandson, Brody Walker Burton of Columbia; his former daughter-in-law, Shawna Burton of Columbia; three siblings, Phillip Burton of Florida, Harold Burton (Audrey) of Columbia, and Sue Burton of Kokomo, IN; two special friends, Doug Janes (Monica) and Donnie Curry (Leoda), and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by nine siblings, Tommy Burton, Ed Burton, Freddie Burton, Delmer Burton, Bobby Burton, Mamie Cowan, Dollie Burton, Faylene Herald and Hazel Curry.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and will continue on Saturday morning until time for the services at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
