Martin Lewis Bryant, Sr.

Martin Lewis Bryant, Sr., 78, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, January 17, 2021 at his residence.  Born in Adair County, KY he was the son of the late Ruel and Myrtie McGaha Bryant.

Mr. Bryant was an Electrician and Maintenance Supervisor for Saint Francis Hospital and Saint Clair Convent for 30 years in Cincinnati, OH.  He loved his dog, gardening and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Mary Dixon Bryant of Columbia, KY; five children Carol Doll (Terry) of Illinois, Martin Bryant, Jr of Columbia, KY, Anita Bryant of Cincinnati, OH, Amy Phillips (Garvin) of Columbia, KY and Michael Scott Bryant of Columbia, KY; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Friday, January 22, 2021 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Bear Wallow Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 10:00am Friday at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Terry Wayne Pelston

Terry Wayne Pelston, 65, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at his residence.  Born in Cumberland County he was the son of the late Carl and Elsie Ray Pelston.  Mr. Pelston was a member of the Carrying the Torch Ministries.

Survivors include four siblings Louise Furkins (Paul Thorpe), Walter Pelston (Marie), Larry Pelston (Carolyn) and Ronnie Joe Pelston (Linda) all of Columbia, KY and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Six siblings Edith Gabehart, Ruby Bates, Myrtie Wooten, Sylvia Shively, Homer Pelston and Kenneth Pelston; two half-brothers and three half-sisters.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday, January 15, 2021 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Coomer Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 10:00am Friday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Bro. Glen McInteer will be officiating and pallbearers will be Anthony Gabehart, Odell Wooten, Trevor Pelston, Tim Myers, Michael Furkins and Leroy Spencer.

William Harold Yarberry

William Harold Yarberry, 64, of Columbia, KY died Friday, January 8, 2021 at his residence.  Born in Columbia, KY he was the son of the late Walter and Ada Loy Yarberry.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters Betty Grider and Janice Allinson and her husband Cherokee.

Survivors include a sister Nancy Grider and her husband James of Columbia, KY; a brother-in-law Ed Grider of Columbia and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Yarberry will be cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.  Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret Laverne Kessinger

Margaret Laverne Kessinger, 74, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, January 10, 2021 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.  Born in Versailles, KY she was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy Barrick Harmon and wife of the late Troy Allen Kessinger.

Mrs. Kessinger was a member of the Flatwoods Separate Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.  It was special to her being “Granny” to all who knew her.

Survivors include seven children Larry Benge of Morganton, NC, Regina Fuller (Steve Bryant) of Russell Springs, KY, Richard Fuller (Martha) of Columbia, KY, James Harmon (Deb) of Stoney Point, NC, Ryan Fuller (Traci) of Columbia, KY, Dusty Bowers (Hollie) of Hiddenite, NC and Angie Lacy (Dale Snyder) of Columbia, KY; 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; nine siblings Virginia Shea (Mike, Linda Roberts, Vernon Harmon, Teresa Woodson (Danny), Terry Cosby, Mary Cosby, Leeann Jones (Jack), Lexi Harmon, Jody Harmon and Willie Harmon; several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by two siblings Lori Ann Harmon and Vincent Wade Harmon.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Kessinger Family Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Thursday after 10:00am at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Bro. Bryan Roberts and Bro. Billy Hewitt will be officiating and pallbearers will be Sean Sommer, Jordan Ford, Jacob Bryant, Jonathan Ford, Ryan Ratliff and Nathan Fuller.

Paula J. Eubank

Paula J. Eubank, 64, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Friday, January 8, 2021 at U.K. Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

She was born July 28, 1956, in Adair County, to the late Hall and Eva Willis Johnson. Paula was a member of Columbia Church of Christ, taught in the Adair County School System for 17 years and was owner of Hallmark for many years.

Survivors include:

Bruce Edward Conover

Bruce Edward Conover, 64, of Brandenburg, KY, formerly of Adair County, died Friday, January 8, 2021 at his home after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Sue McClister Conover in 2013. Bruce was a graduate of Adair County High School Class of 1974, was a well- known Trainer of American Saddlebred Horses, a Kentucky Colonel, an avid bass fisherman and owner/operator of Blue Ribbon Motors, Inc.

Mary Harris

Mary Harris, 97, of Columbia, KY died Wednesday, January 6, 2021at Campbellsville Nursing and Rehab in Campbellsville, KY.  Born in Harlan, KY she was the daughter of the late Austin and Ida Mason Halcomb and wife of the late Haywood Harris.

Survivors include her stepchildren Hayward Harris, Betty Rice, Irene Curtis and Mildred Francis Holliman and several step-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two children Loretta Coomer and Ronnie Harris; two step-sons Kermit and Carlos Harris and two siblings Marie Saltess and Gillis Halcomb.

Funeral services will be 12:00pm Monday, January 11, 2021 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Peaceful Acres Cemetery in Harlan County, KY.  Visitation will be on Monday after 10:00am at the funeral home.

Bina Marcene Bean

Bina Marcene Bean, 83, of Oak Forest, IL and formerly Campbellsville, KY died January 3, 2021 in Orland Park, IL.  Born in Columbia, Ky. she was the daughter of the late James Clyde and Lula Coomer Hoover and beloved wife of the late Marshall Bean.

Bina worked many years for Western Electric and enjoyed many years of retirement with her loving family.

Survivors include three children: Deborah Brazel (Tom), Mark Bean (Donna) and Holland Randall Bean (Judith); eight grandchildren Kimberly, Brian, Kate, Bridget, Mark, John, Jacquelyn and Hannah; great grandchildren Braeden, Corey, Avery, Madelyn and Jack; a brother, Maurice Hoover (Patricia) and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother James Hoover (Norma).

A public graveside service will be at 2:00pm Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at Haven Hill Cemetery with Bro. Stanley Watson officiating.  A walk-thru visitation will be on Saturday from 11:30am-1:30pm at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Zelma Sneed

Zelma Sneed, 93, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.

She was born March 29, 1927, in Adair County, to the late Elbert and Arletha Sneed Richard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Sneed, a son, Phillip Sneed and two sisters, Janet Antle and Claristine Sparks.

Ms. Sneed retired from Fruit of the Loom and was a member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include:

One son – Ronald (Tuk Hui) Sneed of Columbia

One daughter – Sheila Johnson of Columbia

One brother – Elwood Richard of Louisville

Four grandsons – Kevin Sneed of Campbellsville, Ronnie (Elly) Sneed, Josh (Monica) Cross and Alex Sneed all of Columbia

David Lynn Akin

David Lynn Akin, 77, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.He was born April 15, 1943, in Glens Fork, Kentucky, to the late Oris Guy and Dorothy Mae Stotts Akin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister, Oris Jr., Larry & Ricky Akin, Enola Grant.

David was a member and Deacon of Bethany Baptist Church and owner/operator of D&P Trucking.

Shelby Jean Rigney

Shelby Jean Rigney, 82, of Shelbyville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, the 22nd day of December, 2020. Born in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Lucian and Dorothy Marie Moss Harper of Columbia, KY. As the spouse of a Federal employee for over 20 years, she raised two children and managed a household that frequently relocated across the country, then settled in the Greater Louisville area where she could be closer to family in Adair County, Louisville, and Shelbyville. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Throughout her life and wherever she lived, she always called Columbia, KY “home”. She loved to travel, read, sew and cross stitch. She is survived by her son, Bob Rigney; two grandchildren Abigail Rigney and Patrick Rigney; great-granddaughter Cedar VanParys Fortune; sister Peggy Ann Welch and brother James Walter Harper; nieces Tammy Kassem and Shamarie Harper; nephew Paul Harmon and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, John David Rigney, Jr.

Bernice Willis, 75, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.

She was born November 27, 1945, in Gradyville, Kentucky, to the late Dallas Ray and Katherine Wheeler Bennett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Adam and Susan Willis and three brothers, Ed, Walter and Calvin Bennett.

Bernie was a member of Plum Point Baptist Church and a retired Hairdresser.

Survivors include:

Wayne Hatcher, 77, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at his home after a short illness.

He was born December 30, 1943, in Adair County, to the late Atties and Nannie Dohoney Hatcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cally Wilson McFall and the following siblings, Billy, Tom, Bob, William, Ken, James & Barbara Hatcher, Pat Morrison, Mae Lucas & Bedelia Burchett.

Wayne was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and a retired farmer.

Charlene Roberts King

Charlene Roberts King, 64, of Cleves, OH died Saturday, January, 2, 2021 at Mercy West Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.  Born in Cincinnati, OH she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen Hadley Roberts.

Survivors include her husband Donald J. King of Cleves, OH; five children Bill Padgett of Ohio, James Padgett of Columbia, KY, Robert Cohorn of Ohio, May Braun of Columbia, KY and Pamela Cramer of Ohio; four step-children Jeanie King, Annette King, Nicole King and Kelly King Gillian all of Ohio; a brother Charles Carl Roberts of Dry Ridge, KY; three sisters Sharon Schill of Ohio, Patty Hildebrand of Indiana and Sally Carter of Ohio; several grandchildren, niece and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a step-son Don Gillian; two brothers James and Edward Roberts, and three sisters Brenda Miller, Lina Campbell, and Charlotte Turner.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Bear Wallow Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 12:00pm Wednesday at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

George Thomas Keltner

George Thomas Keltner, 94, of Columbia, Ky. died Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 at his residence.  Born on July 18, 1926 in Mell Ridge, KY he was the son of the late the Thomas Alfred and Montrie Blaydes Keltner.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years Bobbie Sizemore Keltner, two daughters Lisa Carol Keltner and Jennifer Keltner and six siblings Carl David, Rollin, and Jesse Keltner, Alta Marie Finn, Mozetta Hatcher, and Mary Keltner.

George enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 at the age of 17.  He served during World War II in Italy and North Africa.  Upon returning home, George moved to Manchester, Ky. where he worked at his brother-in-law’s grocery store until the start of the Korean Conflict, when he once again enlisted.  After that he came home and met the love of his life, Bobbie Sizemore, and they married in 1959.  They settled in Stanford, Ky. until 1964 when they moved to Columbia and built K & F Grocery, which they owned and operated until 1988.  Following his retirement, George worked at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home as greeter for 25 years.

He was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees, as a Sunday School Teacher, and unofficial greeter.  His greatest friends were made at his church and he was a dedicated Christian and servant.  George worked tirelessly for the Republican Party and served as the local party chairman for many years.

George dearly loved his family, including his many nieces and nephews.  His favorite occasions were when he was surrounded by family.  Many wonderful hours were spent at his kitchen table with a cup of coffee, stories of his past, and lots of laughter.  He was incredibly witty and quick with a joke.

Survivors include two daughters Leslie Keltner and Alissa Barnes (Bob), both of Columbia, Ky. and five grandchildren Elise Murrell of Lexington, Ky., Charlotte Murrell of Columbia, Ky., Thomas Murrell of Lexington, Ky., Payton Barnes of Nashville, Tenn. and Logan Barnes (Emily) of Russell Springs, Ky.

Funeral services will be today (Thursday, Dec. 31)  at 11 a.m.  at the Columbia United Methodist Church with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery.  A walk-thru visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. today at the church.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

Carl Lewis Froedge

Carl Lewis Froedge age 76 of Columbia, KY passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2020 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY. Carl was born on January 25, 1944 in Adair County, KY to the late William McKinley Froedge and Pearl Parson Froedge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Bell Froedge, two daughters, Teresa Rhinehart and Donna Jean Froedge, one grandson, Jeremy Eugene Gross, five brothers, Emmitt, Lester, Cecil, Wesley, and J.C. Froedge and two sisters, Marie McInteer and Ann Maesk. Carl was a member of New Concord Community Church and a former minister of Columbia Community Church.

Survivors Include:

Three Daughters- Melissa Richards(Johnny) and Libby Fields(Ricky) both of Columbia, KY and Lisa Gross of Tompkinsville, KY

James Andrew Brown, Jr., 85, of Edmonton, KY died Saturday, December, 26, 2020 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.  Born in Adair County he was the son of the late James Andrew and Gertrude Liza Scott Brown.

Mr. Brown attended the Faith Temple Full Gospel Church in Russell Springs and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his dog “Skip”.

Survivors include his wife Clarine Blythe Brown of Edmonton, KY; a son-in-law James Probus of Edmonton, KY and a sister Mary Orlena Sneed of Russell Springs, KY.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two children Dorinda Yvonne Brown and Darlene Brown Probus; a granddaughter Gale Marie Probus; seven siblings Frank, Travis, Bennie, Herman and Austin Brown and a half-sister Bertie Coomer.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Moore Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 11:00am Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bro. Eugene Sneed will be officiating and pallbearers will be Mickey Brown, Travis Brown, Larry Whitlow, Greg Wilson, Jerry Walker and Bill Simon.

Rev. David Moss

Rev. David Moss age 64 of Columbia, KY went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green. David was born on January 02, 1956 to Guy and Jenny Moss. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, and a special cousin Dale Bennett. David was an avid UK fan. He was one of the 1969-1970 first football teams of Adair County High School. He was a member of amateur radio with a call sign of K2DEM, and was the Friday night Net Control Operator for the Central Kentucky Amateur Radio Club.

Survivors Include:

His wife of 43 years, Kathy Moss of Columbia, KY

One Brother- Tom Moss(Terry) of Lexington

Two Nieces- Megan Salathe(Scott) of Louisville and Sara Moss of Austin, TX

A special cousin, Jimmy Harper and several other cousins and a host of friends survive

June Dickerson Neat

June Dickerson Neat, 90, of Columbia, KY died Sunday night, December 20, 2020 in Somerset at her son’s (Sean) home. She had been in rapidly declining health during the last several weeks.

June was born April 22, 1930, in the Barnett’s Creek community of Adair County, to the late Thomas Jesse Dickerson and Letha Edna West Dickerson. In 2015, she was preceded in death by James Arlo Neat, her husband of sixty-five years. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Rose Hagy, Nancy Patterson, JoAnn Burton; and her brothers John Dickerson, Frank Dickerson and Garnett Andrew Dickerson.

June’s smile and gentle nature brought a sense of peaceful joy to those who encountered her. She was a member of New Hope Separate Baptist Church and a thirty-five year retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. She fiercely loved her family and friends, and was loved in kind. She was an avid birdwatcher, quilter, gardener and painter.

Survivors include: Two sons – The Rev. William Jessee (Virginia “Jenny”) Neat of Frankfort and Sean (Angie) Neat of Somerset; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

One brother – Thomas A. (Anna) Dickerson of Liberty.

Graveside Service – Monday, December 28, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. CST Haven Hill Cemetery with Bro. David Coffey officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to New Hope Separate Baptist Church which can be mailed to the church at 10706 Liberty Rd, Columbia, KY 42728.

Blake Burris Martin

Blake Burris Martin age 34 of Columbia, KY passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at his home. Born November 24, 1986 in Columbia, Adair County, KY, he was a 2005 graduate of Adair County High School and a 2011 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He later graduated from Vincennes University Mortuary Science Program in 2014 and attained his Embalmer and Funeral Directors license in the State of Kentucky. Blake was a member of Columbia Baptist Church and along with his dad and mom operated Grissom-Martin Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his father Rickey Burris in 1987.

Survivors Include:

His Wife- Haley Blaydes Martin of Columbia, KY

Two Sons- Asher Cole Martin and Avery Hayes Martin of Columbia, KY

His Parents- David and Cathy Martin of Columbia, KY

One Sister- McKenzie Martin of Columbia, KY

His Grandparents- Billy and Joyce Rodgers, Tom Burris, and Bro. Raymond A. Martin all of Columbia, KY

His Father-in-law and Mother-in-law- Gary and Tamara Blaydes of Center, KY

and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral Service:

Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the Adair County High School Gymnasium with Bro. Randy Johnson, Bro. Aaron LaBarge and Bro. Al Hardy officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Columbia Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Withers officiating. Casket Bearers were Chase Coffey, Ethan Cundiff, Matt Jackson, Britt Jackson, Devin Bell, Adam Harmon, Jared Shaw

The family kindly asks that instead of floral arrangements or other acts of kindness that donations be made to the Asher and Avery Martin Education Fund. Accounts have been set up at all local banks or may be left at the funeral home.
