Herman Wood “H.W.” Roach, 90, of Greer, S.C., passed away July 28, 2016 at Open Arms Hospice after a brief illness.
H.W. was born May 25, 1926 in Breeding to the late Lou Willia and A.H. Roach. In addition to his parents, H.W. was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruby McKinney Roach.
Mr. Roach is survived by two sons, Hal and wife Katie Roach of Greenville, S.C. and Brent and wife Tamara Roach of Statesville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Katherine Roach, Cherylyn Groh, Michael Groh, John Roach, and Olivia Roach; his extended family, Kenneth Ballou, Gary and Doris Lane, Murray and Juanita Scott, Donald and Bobbie McKinney, and Harold and Carol McKinney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Mr. Roach was a graduate of Breeding High School and upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II from 1944 through 1946 in Pacific Theatre. He was a retired farmer and businessman and a faithful member of Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church where he served many years as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher.
Mr. Roach was dedicated to community service as well; having been a part of the Adair County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 40 years; a Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors member; a member of VFW Post 6097; a member of the Adair County Fair Board; a member of the Adair County Water District Board of Directors as well as a member of Gideon’s International.
Funeral service will be held Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church with Bro. Clifton Bennett officiating. Interment will be at Haven Hill Cemetery will full military honors presented by VFW Post 6097.
Visitation is after 4:30 p.m. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Saturday at Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church.
