Nellie Garrett, 98, of Columbia, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at her home.
She was born on July 22, 1918 in Adair County to the late Sam Loren and Gracie Smith Burton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert A. Garrett on Jan. 7, 1990; three brothers, Clyde, Willie and Clinton Burton; and by two sisters, Beatrice Burton and Inez Roden.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Randall Pyles of Columbia; three grandchildren, Cindi (Dan) Waggener, Doug (Tammy) Pyles and Craig (Carla) Pyles; seven great grandchildren, Will and Michael Waggener, Jacob, Luke, Zachary, Holly and Emily Pyles; sister-in-law, Virginia Burton of Columbia; and by special friends, Brenda Nokes and Teresa Dean.
Several other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral service is today at 11 a.m. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Pescosolido officiating with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.
Nellie’s great grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.
Expressions of sympathy are requested to be in the form of a donation to Trinity United Methodist Church or donation of Gideon Bibles. These may be left at the funeral home.
