William “Bill” Porter Vaughn passed away on October 27, 2023, at the age of 84 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Bill was born on July 20, 1939, in Green County, Kentucky; he was filled with hometown pride, love for his family, and passion for UofK Wildcat athletics. Bill will be remembered for his humor, tall stature, and athletic abilities.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Autrey Sullivan Vaughn and John P. Vaughn; one great-grandson, Jamin; and his wife, Mary Vaughn. Bill is survived by his daughters: Cindi Henrick (Wayne), Jeannine Vaughn, Lisa Thompson, and Angie Mills. Bill was also a loving grandfather to Stacy Wright Boone (Chris), Tiffany Wright, Jacob Thompson, Sierra Mills, and Chase Mills. Bill leaves nine great-grandchildren: Candice (Jesse), Addison (Christian), Preslee, William, Breniah, Kenzlee, Kendra, Gracelynn, and Luna, Bill was also blessed with two great-great-grandchildren, Emmett and Arlen. Additionally, Bill is remembered by his stepdaughters Amy, Pam, and Sherri, and step-grandchildren Justin, Maddie, Emily, Leigh Anne, Hilary, James, and Julia.
Bill attended Male High School before embarking on a remarkable 45-year career at Porcelain Metals before retiring. Bill was also a devoted member of Southeast Christian Church, where he found solace and inspiration.
Bill was a sports fanatic; in his free time, he enjoyed discussing sports and reminiscing about notable sports moments with others. He also had a deep love for music and dancing. Bill often walked his neighborhood and engaged in friendly conversations with everyone he encountered. Bill’s warm and friendly personality brightened the lives of those around him.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor his memory. Contributions in Bill’s name can be made to Southeast Christian Church.
Bill Vaughn's presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bill leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and cherished memories. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
