Major drug bust nets two Adair men

Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones reported Wednesday the arrest of two Adair County brothers through a multi-county investigation that led to drug trafficking charges.

Frederick L. Ennis, 37, and Diontae M. Ennis, 35, both of Columbia, are accused of trafficking in methamphetamine in Pulaski County and other areas of southern Kentucky.

The arrests follow a multi-agency investigation involving the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Columbia Police Department, Lexington Police Department, and the Kentucky State Police.

According to Jones, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office began conducting surveillance on both subjects. Law enforcement watched, on multiple occasions, the Ennis brothers meet with suspected sources of supply, outside of Pulaski County.

On Sept. 11, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office conducted surveillance on the Ennis brothers when they observed them turn north on I-75. Additional agencies joined into the surveillance to assist the sheriff’s office.

The Ennis brothers traveled to Lexington, where Lexington Police Department’s Air Support Unit assisted the sheriff’s office by conducting surveillance when they arrived in Lexington. The Ennis brothers were seen meeting with a vehicle in a parking lot for a short period of time, indicative to a drug transaction.

The Lexington Police Department Air Support Unit followed the Ennis vehicle south on I-75, back to Pulaski County. When the vehicle arrived back in Pulaski County, the Kentucky State Police Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the Kentucky State Police deployed a K-9 to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle. Following the free air sniff, law enforcement conducted a search of the vehicle. Inside a bag in the trunk of the vehicle, two large bags containing suspected methamphetamine were located. The substances were later weighed at approximately 2 pounds.

Frederick Ennis was taken into custody by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 2nd Offense (methamphetamine)
  • Contempt of Court (Warrant)

Diontae Ennis was taken into custody by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 2nd Offense (methamphetamine)

Sheriff Bobby Jones stated, “This operation was a great example of the impact law enforcement agencies can make when they combine their resources for a common goal.” Jones went on to say, “the removal of these two individuals from the community will have a major impact on the illegal drug industry, not just in Pulaski County but surrounding counties. I would like to thank all of the participating agencies for their effort in helping to stop this drug trafficking organization.”

The investigation is still ongoing by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office. As the investigation continues into this case, additional charges are expected on other individuals involved in this conspiracy.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Lexington Police Department Air Support Unit, Columbia Police Department, Kentucky State Police DESI West, and Kentucky State Police Interdiction Team assisted the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.
